10. Passeig del Pertegàs

Pertegàs walkway is one of the most pleasant and quietest places you can find in Sant Celoni. Almost 1.5 km long, it is a path for pedestrians and cyclists parallel to the Pertegàs rivulet, a tributary of Tordera river, and which gives access to other different long paths and to other local routes such as that of Maribaus. The rivulet connects the centre of the town to the immediate natural surroundings, of prime importance for the municipality, as due to its geographical location it has a close relation to the mountain.

With Montseny Natural Pak in the northwest and Montnegre i Corredor park in the southeast, ever since ancient times, the forest has provided resources to the inhabitants of Sant Celoni and Baix Montseny. As can be seen today, the influence of centuries of agricultural colonization on the landscape, results in an alternation of forests and crops, and in the multitude of country houses scattered around almost all the area of both parks. You can also find many examples of traditional industrial activity related to the exploitation of forest resources, such as the ice wells and ovens for extracting resin, glassmaking and clock making.

In current times, the decline of farming, forestry and cattle breeding activities, has led to a change in family economies, which have begun to focus mainly on services such as rural tourism, hotels and restaurants.

Now, let´s continue on the walk until you reach the Rectoria Vella park and climb to the garden by the steps on the left of the walkway.
